Sacred Heart Welcomes Our New Pastor
Rev. Erwin J Friedl, B.A., M.Div.

Cardinal Francis George announced the following appointments September 30: ….Rev. Erwin Friedl, from associate pastor of St. Edward Parish, West Sunnyside, to pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Melrose Park, effective immediately. - The Catholic New World October 11-24th issue

 

Fr Friedl was born on November 24, 1944 in Bavaria, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1954, and became a U.S. citizen in 1963. He has lived in the Chicago area all of his life in the United States. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and Quigley Preparatory Seminary High School. He attended Niles College of Loyola for two years, St. Mary of the Lake for another two years and achieved his Philosophy degree, and St. Mary of the Lake for four years and achieved his Graduate in Theology.

Fr. Friedl was ordained in 1971 for the Archdiocese of Chicago at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois. His assignments include: Associate Pastor at St. Cagetan (1971-1978), Presentation (1978-1984), St. Andrew (1984-1989), Immaculate Heart of Mary (1989-1994), St. Cornelius (1995-2000), Sacred Heart (2000-2006), St Edwards (2006-2009), and now Pastor of Sacred Heart in 2009.
